2009 - ASCET Summer Camp in

Applied Science, Computers, Engineering & Technology

 

 

Applied Science, Computers, Engineering and Technology (ASCET) Camp is a summer program for students in grades 7-12. A series of commuting, day camps will be held for three weeks, starting July 8, 2009 at the campus of the Farmingdale State University of New York, on Route 110 in Farmingdale, NY. ASCET camps will mix learning with fun and adventure. Based on an innovative curriculum the camps will provide the students with hands-on experience, group activities, peer competition and extracurricular activities. The primary objective of the camps is to introduce the students to promising careers in science, engineering and technology.

 

Students may select from among the following programs:

 

1. Renewable Energy and Alternate Fuel Vehicles (July 8- July 10) - Free of charge

(This camp is offered at no cost to participants. Students attending the other camps will be

given first preference)

 

Learn the concepts in the application of such renewable energy sources as solar and hydrogen. Apply the concepts to build a model renewable energy automobile. Hands-on projects will be part of the camp.

 

2. Computers and Robotics Beginner level (July 13 - July 17)

 

Learn the concepts in computer hardware, operating systems, robotics, and robot operations. Hands-on projects will be part of the camp.

 

3. Computers and Robotics - Advanced level (July 13 - July 17)

 

Learn advanced concepts in computer hardware, networking, control systems and robot applications in automated industrial systems. Hands-on projects will be part of the camp.

 

4. Airplanes and Flight Technology (July 20 - July 24)

 

Build model airplanes and learn the concepts of flight; work with small airplanes to learn the concepts in the operation and maintenance of aircrafts; learn to use flight simulators for pilot training; gain exposure to air traffic control operations; and become familiar with airport operations and management.

 

 

Fee Schedule:

 

Pre registration on or before May 30, 2009: $500 per program

Registration after May 30, 2009: $600 per program

 

The fees will cover instruction, and program related transportation.

 

Open House:

Thursday, May 28, 2009 - 6 PM to 7:30 PM at Lupton Hall

Saturday, May 30, 2009 - 10 AM to 12 Noon at Lupton Hall

Note : No refunds will be offered after June 15, 2009 for cancellations.

-The camp will start at 9:30 AM and will conclude at 4:00 PM. Parents should make arrangements for drop off and pick up at Lupton Hall.

-Students must bring their own lunch, snacks and drinks. No food will be available on campus.

-The students must follow the rules and regulations pertaining to students conduct on the campus of Farmingdale State College.
